

What is device management?
Device management software is designed to make it possible for enterprises to configure and manage the set-up of a mobile device fleet from a central administration point.
How does it work?
Details of all mobile devices are stored in a database by the enterprise IT department. A pre-set configuration can be copied to a new device to configure it automatically with all the correct settings. The database is also used for ongoing device management. Configurations and settings can be updated even while the device is roaming. Device management can also be used for troubleshooting, to assist a help desk to remotely examine device configurations and take corrective measures.
There are two technologies for device management specifically standardised by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA):
About device management
Nokia supports the OMA device management standards in new phones designed for the business market. Nokia also works with technology vendors, such as IBM, to develop device management solutions. IBM Tivoli has mobile device management functionality integrated for specific Nokia business phones.
